Kniha Černé roky představuje syrové fotografické a literární deníky z let 1971–1987 významné české undergroundové fotografky Libuše Jarcovjákové. Kniha ždímá černobílou všednost normalizační Prahy, odhaluje krásu i marasmus tehdejší doby a dává nahlédnout do pozdějšího podivuhodného života emigrantky v Západním Berlíně a Tokiu. Kniha představuje experiment ve smyslu editorského přístupu. Stejnou měrou dává nahlédnout na Libušinu fotografickou a literární tvorbu. Umělecký výstup tak divoce osciluje na pomezí klasické monografie a intimních deníkových zápisků. Svou syrovostí a autenticitou představují Černé roky svébytný portrét nepoddajné umělkyně v jejích divokých letech. Libuše se vždy pohybovala v extrémech. Žila po hospodách, pracovala na noční směny v tiskárně, střídala kvanta milenců a milenek, fotila v pololegálních gay klubech, dokonce učila češtinu Kubánce a Vietnamce, zároveň se pohybovala ve vysokých uměleckých kruzích. Znala českou fotografickou elitu v čele s doktorkou Fárovou, díky otci – malíři a členovi umělecké skupiny Trasa 58 – se potkávala se sestrami Válovými, Karlem Vacou. V Japonsku fotila pro světové značky Comme des Garçons nebo Pasha. V černobílé všednosti komunismu drze překračovala hranice západních zemí, upjatosti, společenských stereotypů i mravů. Černé roky dokumentují to, co lidé v 70. a 80. letech skutečně žili. Anebo to, co se naopak žít báli. Libuše svérázně čelila potratové komisi, estébákům i komplikovanému otci. Vše fotila a o všem psala.

The book Černé roky (Black Years) presents raw photographic and literary diaries from the years 1971–1987 by the important Czech underground photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková. The book squeezes the black-and-white ordinariness of normalization Prague, reveals the beauty and marasmus of the time and gives a glimpse into the later remarkable life of an emigrant in West Berlin and Tokyo. The book represents an experiment in the sense of an editorial approach. It also gives an insight into Libuše's photographic and literary work. The artistic output thus oscillates wildly between a classic monograph and an intimate diary. With its rawness and authenticity, this book is a distinctive portrait of an unruly artist in her wild years. Libuše has always been in extremes. She lived in pubs, worked night shifts in a printing house, changed a number of lovers, took photos in semi-legal gay clubs, even taught Czech to Cubans and Vietnamese, and at the same time moved in high artistic circles. She knew the Czech photographic elite, led by Dr. Fárová, and thanks to her father – a painter and member of the art group Trasa 58 – she met the Válová sisters, Karel Vaca. In Japan, she has photographed for global brands such as Comme des Garçons and Pasha. In the black-and-white ordinariness of communism, she brazenly crossed the borders of Western countries, uptightness, social stereotypes and mores. The book Černé roky documents what people really lived in the 70s and 80s in Czechoslovakia. Or what they were afraid to live. Libuše faced the abortion commission, the State Security and her complicated father. She took pictures of everything and wrote about everything.
