Limitovaná edice knihy Orel z Diyarbakiru je uzavřená v kouřovém plexisklovém pouzdře s průstřelem a obsahuje podepsanou a očíslovanou fotografii Hervého Jakubowicze. Limitka vznikla v počtu 20 kusů.

Autofikční román francouzského spisovatele, fotografa a filmaře Hervého Jakubowicze Orel z Diyarbakiru vypráví pohnutý příběh válečného fotografa, který si po zkušenostech z konfliktu ve Rwandě slíbí, že nikdy více nevstoupí do válečné zóny. Životní okolnosti ho však po letech znovu nasměrují do války ­­– do iráckého Mosulu, který je zrovna bombardován.

Napůl dokumentární a napůl fiktivní příběh knihy se opírá o silné fotografie pořízené Jakubowiczem během jeho dřívějšího působení ve válečných a krizových zónách. Příběh nás zavádí do Kurdistánu, bývalé Jugoslávie, ale i New Yorku, Paříže, Prahy nebo Bangkoku, kudy prošel i sám Jakubowicz, zaznamenávaje konflikty 90. let a později i válku v Iráku v letech 2016 a 2017. Kniha přináší cenná a emotivní svědectví z let 1991–2017 nejenom o geopolitické situaci na Blízkém východě, ale i zajímavou reflexi světového dění za posledních třicet let. Vedle nonfikční roviny textu prosvítají knihou také silné emotivní a úvahové pasáže, které od reálného dokumentárního záznamu jdou oddělit jen stěží.

Orel z Diyarbakiru však není pouze o válce, ale také o počtu meteoritů, které každý rok dopadají na zem, o lásce, hazardu i množství munice vystřelené na Sarajevo, o Afroditě a Anzuovi – orlovi se lví hlavou, o hranicích chaosu a času, který potřebuje kulka snajpra, aby urazila tři kilometry.

Kniha vzniká kompletně v české režii pod kurátorským vedením Barbory Baronové a v grafické úpravě Milana Nedvěda. Za překladem z francouzského originálu stojí oceňovaná básnířka a překladatelka Alžběta Stančáková ve spolupráci se spisovatelkou a překladatelkou Sárou Vybíralovou. Kniha vychází v limitovaném nákladu v nakladatelství wo-men.

Orel z Diyarbakiru volně navazuje na středometrážní Jakubowiczův film The Bullet Time.

The limited edition of this book is enclosed in a smoked plexiglass case with a bullet hole and contains a signed and numbered photograph of Hervé Jakubowicz. The limited edition was produced in 20 pieces.

An auto-fictional novel Orel z Diyarbakiru (The Eagle from Diyarbakir) by a French writer, photographer and filmmaker Hervé Jakubowicz tells the moving story of a war photographer who, after his experience of the conflict in Rwanda, claims that he won't enter a war zone any more in his life. However, life circumstances direct him to war again years later ­­– to the Iraqi city of Mosul, which is currently being bombed.

The half-documentary, half-fictional story is based on powerful photographs taken by Jakubowicz during his earlier work in war and crisis zones. The story takes us to Kurdistan, the former Yugoslavia, but also to New York, Paris, Prague and Bangkok, where Jakubowicz himself did his work, capturing the conflicts of the 1990s and later the war in Iraq in 2016 and 2017. The book brings valuable and emotional testimonies from the years 1991–2017 not only about the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, but also an interesting reflection of world events over the past thirty years. In addition to the non-fiction level of the text, the book also shines through strong emotional and reflective passages that are difficult to separate from the real documentary record.

However, the Eagle of Diyarbakir is not only about war, but also about the number of meteorites that fall to the ground every year, about love, harzard and the amount of ammunition fired at Sarajevo, about Aphrodite and Anzu – the lion-headed eagle, about the limits of chaos and the time it takes for a sniper's bullet to travel three kilometers.

The book is being created completely under the curatorial direction of Barbora Baronová with the help of graphic designer Milan Nedvěd. The award-winning poet and translator Alžběta Stančáková is behind the translation from the French original in cooperation with the writer and translator Sára Vybíralová.
